What do you enjoy about the Terrifier series?

the first movie was just meh to me but the second is a proper slasher film in a way that manyyyyyy of the so called revivals of the past few years try but never come close. before watching it i just figured it was a splatter film and was happy that one was playing in theaters but nothing caught my attention really. but i'm glad i watched them back to back and got to enjoy the second one. it understands so much abt a slasher film while still keeping the oldschool splatter set pieces. it understands that a horror movie needs characters and needs space for them to be, you know, people. it understand that the hangout aspect of a slasher is KEY. that tension is needed but that it doesnt mean that you can only have an explosion of blood in the last 20 minutes. i was sold by the dream sequence at the start. there's bits of rob zombies halloween 2, nightmare on elm street, even the prowler in it but it's its own thing and it feels so genuine and that it had actual human beings behind it. that's all i want in a horror movie these days lol. the mother alone, there's so much in there that in someone else's hands would just feel hollow, a pastiche, but to me she was so real. idk. to some it was an attempt at fixing past mistakes but to me it all felt incredibly sincere. a v generous movie. glad it wasn't glossy bullshit. i had fun! will be seeing art at the theater in november!

I have always been a strong proponent to the ideology of "no woman should be reduced to her man's possession" so here is Ha Hee Ra performing the children's patriotic song "태양을 향해 달리자 (Run Towards The Sun)". In her younger teenage years, she was part of the KBS Children’s Choir, which shows in her singing skills here.

Now I was extremely sure that this was somewhere is 1983 or 1984 because she is singing a song she probably learnt at school, is wearing a very childlike and cute dress and just looks that way - but nope. According to broadcast, this was broadcast in June 1987 - Hee Ra was 17 since it wasn't her 18th birthday yet. She legitimately looks 10 by western standards and 14-15 in Asian standards. Btw this is Hee Ra when she was 14, in March 1984 :

In the singing video above, she guested on KBS's "Star Special" in the "High Schooler Corner" along with fellow "high teen star" child actress Lee Sang Ah. Lee Sang Ah is another actress with serious cultural impact - do you recognize certain beauty standards of today in her face? - but I wanna do a deeper dive on that in another post.

Dir en grey - Cage

I originally didnt like Dir en grey ! I don't remember what the song was, but considering when that happened, it is very likely that it was saku lol. But Cage made me fall in love with Dir ! I was like "oh they are good, sometimes, then !", so I gave them another try, and the rest is history :D Cage was a single from GAUZE, both released in 1999 (gauze is still one of my favourite album from them ! And Cage is still a phenomenal track !!!)

MOON香奈 (Kana) - 空中舞乱孤 (kuuchuu buranko)

it really baffles me that kana isn't on vk.gy OR wikipedia in english cause she always was on the lists from people recommending female visual kei artists, at the time, like people would mention her in the same breath as luci'fer luscious violenoue, inugami circus dan, and omnyouza lol (not me name dropping what are you talking about)

I listened to that song so fucking much, in high school. I originally thought that was her only palatable song, but then i guess my ear developed lol kuuchuu buranko is found on 動物的人間 (doubutsu-teki ningen), released in 2001

Malice Mizer - Beast of Blood

Considering i came from a goth background, it really isn't surprising that beast of blood became the song that made me fall in love with Malice Mizer. I think, at this point, this song is one of the pillars of the genre. Beast of Blood was a single released in 2001

There are many songs i could have chosen for miyavi, but i decided to go for this iconic piece, ehehehe. This is another very "high school" song of mine, honestly : i was very much so "YEAH POP IS DEAD, fuck pop, long live miyavi \m/" XD POP is dead was a single released in 2002

THIS IS THE CULPRIT. THIS IS THE FIRST VISUAL KEI SONG I HAVE EVER HEARD, ONE AFTERNOON IN LATE JUNE OF 2004. I started my career (lolz) as a vk fan as a mana fan lol. My favourite colour was royal blue, when i was 15 HAHA. I OWE MY EYEBROWS SHAPE TO MANA, DO YOU UNDERSTAND. This version of Pessimiste was found on Moi dix Mois' first album, Dix Infernal, released in 2003.
